My Blueprint Journey and the Future of AI in Wellness

Consistency and the Blueprint Protocol for Health

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week's newsletter. Lately, I've been deeply reflecting on consistency, health, and the somewhat unexpected path my life has taken. Starting something new can be daunting: how often have you felt overwhelmed by too much information? These past few weeks, I've come to realize I need less information and more experience, which I'm ready to share my story.

Stories help us feel connected, help us learn from each other, and together we can achieve more. So today, I want to invite you into my personal journey with Blueprint that has transformed my health and reshaped how I view the future of health.

A Personal Frustration: My Dad's Health

I want to start with something deeply personal: my dad's health struggles. Seeing him struggle and feeling helpless sparked a fire in me. Despite my best efforts, very little of what I shared with my Dad related to health seemed to make a difference. I shared my personal experience with him about what worked well for me with diet, exercise, and sleep but none of it seemed to make an impact. My Dad chose to avoid doctors and stick to old habits which has kept him in the same health struggles for almost 3 years. His struggles acted as a catalyst to get me thinking about how important it is for me to share my experience with my own health with others.

The Spark: Sharing My Journey

This frustration ignited a determination to share my experiences and lessons learned with others. It is my goal to help at least one person. Maybe by writing and sharing my experiences I'll get better at this and one day be able to help my Dad. By documenting my journey, I hope to improve and one day be able to help my Dad. What is more, I want to do this in a way that affects my daughter. It is important to me to show her consistency rather than just preaching about it.

Initial Questions: Exploring Blueprint

I want to address some questions that many of you might have:

  • Why Blueprint?

  • How did you implement the Blueprint protocol?

  • What has your experience with Blueprint been like?

  • What unexpected benefits have you discovered?

The Allure of Blueprint: A Data-Driven Approach

The Blueprint protocol, developed by Bryan Johnson, first appealed to me because of its foundation in extensive testing and data. Brian built a lab in his home so that he could do a ton of testing on his body. He would test his body, adjust what he was eating, and choose what he was eating so that he could decide which supplements to take, specifically based on the data. The premise was simple yet compelling: make dietary and lifestyle choices based on concrete data, not just generic health advice. Specifically, the fact that Brian was doing so much testing to determine his protocol really caught my attention.

Jumping into Blueprint: My Modified Protocol

Two years ago, I embarked on a journey with Blueprint, diving deep into its food, supplementation, and lifestyle recommendations. To get started, I looked at what he was eating and the supplements he was taking, and I did my best to replicate what he was taking. I modified my diet. I added in the supplements, and I just immediately switched over at that point to my version of the blueprint protocol.

Following the detailed protocols available on Bryan Johnson's website, I initially pieced together my regimen from online sources, mirroring Johnson's supplement stack and dietary guidelines as closely as possible. I also modified the diet slightly based the ingredients I needed, namely taking cauliflower out of the main mean and focusing more on broccoli and lentils. I eat the same meals every day.

Now, my daily routine includes:

  • Morning: Wake at 4:30am, Blueprint green drink, Blueprint supplements, RX bar, and coffee. Then I spend time writing.

  • Workout: Hit the gym Boulder Athletics at 6am for a group workout led by one of the amazing coaches there. The gym owner, Park Roberts, does all of the programming so I don't have to think about what workout I'm doing. Once again, I trust the data driven approach by an expert.

  • Post-Gym: My second Blueprint meal called nutty pudding, which is like a protein shake along with a mix of blueberry and macadamia nuts.

  • Mid-day: My biggest meal of the day called Super Veggie, consisting of broccoli, lentils, and shiitake mushrooms and a few other ingredients.

Consistency: Results Will Come

Results will come. Each day you show up is like money in the bank. Embracing Blueprint was about more than just following a diet; it was about committing to a consistent and sustainable lifestyle. My years as an athlete taught me that showing up reliably leads to inevitable progress. I've been very consistent, stuck with the blueprint protocol, and have continued to stick with my workouts. 99% of the time, I’m following my slightly modified version of the blueprint protocol, and the results have been astounding.

What is more, I'm able to just show up easily every day. I have simplified things for success by eating the same foods every day and finding a gym that does great programming so I can just show up and do the planned workout. Getting these pieces dialed in has really made it so much easier to be consistent because I don't have to think about it. I've made my decisions in advance, and my followthrough is so much easier as a result.

Finding a gym that does great programming has really made it so much easier to be consistent because I don't have to think about it. Simplify your life so you don't experience decision fatigue. Then focus on showing up and make success inevitable.

The Blueprint Lifestyle: Consistent Habits Only

Brian's free blueprint protocol Consists of sleep, diet, exercise, family and friendships. and then avoiding things like fast food, junk food, smoking, vaping, alcohol, social media, and anything addictive. I would say I've done pretty well on sleep. I'm averaging somewhere between seven and eight hours of sleep at night. He did say that he would try certain things, see how they went, look at the testing data, and decide whether or not to keep it. So everything had to make make it through the testing protocol to stay. And I liked Brian's goals. So one of the best things I ever did for my own consistency when it comes to diet is find someone who was using methods that were based on extensive testing and data.

Brian Johnson's Idea: Would You Turn Your Life Over to AI?

Would you turn all your decisions over to this protocol when what to eat, when to eat, how much to sleep, when to sleep? I've come to see Brian Johnson in a new in a new way. He is thinking about life with artificial intelligence. He understands the importance of testing to see what the body needs for health and longevity to create an objective protocol.

What does society look like when AI is making majority of the decisions for us?

I'm all in on the Blueprint Protocol. Why wouldn't I turn my diet decisions over to the data?

Seth Godin and The Second Time Through

Seth Godin is a marketing guru wrote a book called "The Purple Cow" and in it he says we should make something worth talking about. Something remarkable, like a purple cow. If you’re driving down the road you drive past the field and you see a purple cow you’re probably gonna tell your friends about it and Seth says that ideas that spread win so create something remarkable.

Seth has delivered a daily blog for over a decade and I think that’s remarkable, which is why I'm telling you about it. In his daily blog, Seth recently shared the concept of "The second time through." The concept is simple. Think about the time and effort required to do something the first time versus doing it again.

The first time, we’re not only wayfaring, we’re asking, arguing, compromising, re-working, re-starting, and exploring. The second time, we have a map and we’re ready to go.

Seth Godin

I'm here to give you that map, so achieving consistency with your health and fitness using the Blueprint Protocol is more like the second time through for you.

Call to Action: Building a Community of Consistent Health
