The Creative Morning Writing Habit

Unlock Superhuman Potential

Where is Your Attention?

Do you ever wake up and almost immediately get sucked into the endless crazy news cycle, anxious about the state of the world? I did. For years, the weight of daily headlines crushed me, leaving me drained and uninspired. It felt like I was living a life dictated by external chaos, far removed from the creative, impactful existence I knew I could live. Keeping myself stuck in all of that noise was too much! I knew I didn’t want that life anymore.

I wanted a different life. A life free from anxiety, where I could contribute to myself, my family, especially my daughter, my friends, and as many other people as I can possibly impact in a positive way. I realized that everything I've learned, everything I've experienced is completely worthless unless I can share it, pass it on, give something to others around me to make their lives better. I need to share what I’ve learned for it to be useful. I need to feel kindness from the inside out.

The problem? I wasn't prioritizing creation. I was consuming endless streams of information, leaving little room for my own thoughts and ideas to take shape. My mornings were a blur of news feeds and social media, fueling anxiety, and crushing creativity.

But what if there was a way to break free from this cycle? What if I could start each day by tapping into my creative potential, setting the stage for a more focused, productive, and fulfilling life?

That's the question I began to explore. What I discovered was a simple yet powerful habit that has transformed my mornings, unlocking a new level of clarity, focus, and creative energy. In this week's newsletter, I'll share that habit and how you can use it to begin your own journey of self-improvement.

The Superhuman Creator: Why Morning Writing Changes Everything

We want to "stay informed," so we keep up with the news, follow social media trends, and consume as much information as possible. But this constant consumption comes at a cost: it fills our minds with noise, distractions, and anxieties, leaving little room for our own thoughts and ideas to grow.

What if the key to unlocking your creative potential wasn't consuming more, but creating more? What if you could harness the power of the early morning hours to tap into a source of inspiration and set the tone for a day of focused creation?

That's the power of the creative morning habit. It's about prioritizing creation over consumption, reclaiming your mornings as a time for focused thought and expression.

For me, this habit has been a game-changer. By waking up and writing first thing, I've been able to:

  • Reduce Anxiety: By focusing on creation, I'm less reactive to the chaos of the outside world.

  • Increase Clarity: Writing helps me organize my thoughts and gain a clearer perspective on my goals and priorities.

  • Unlock Creative Energy: I've found that writing actually gives me more energy, fueling my creativity throughout the day.

  • Become a Superhuman Creator: As I'm finding, an alter-ego persona is the perfect way to push away the fear and put the playful superhuman creator in the spotlight. And in the next newsletter, I’ll be diving deep into the transformative power of using an alter-ego persona.

You don’t need to have all the answers to start writing. The act of writing will give you the clarity you’re searching for. Start with one sentence and let the rest follow.

The 3-Step Morning Creator Protocol

You might think that if you want to write, you need the perfect environment, the best tools, and endless hours, but you really just need to wake up and write. You need to show up, be consistent, and improve that way.

Ready to cultivate your own creative morning habit? Here's a simple 3-step protocol to get you started:

The path to consistency requires a playful curiosity—approach your morning creative habit as an experiment rather than a chore.

Step 1: Schedule Your Creative Time

  • Problem: Life gets in the way.

  • Solution: Schedule 30-60 minutes each morning for focused writing. This could be before work, before the kids wake up, or whenever you have a quiet moment to yourself. Make it non-negotiable. My time is from 04:45 AM to 05:45 AM.

Step 2: Choose Your Tools

  • Problem: Overcomplicating the process.

  • Solution: You don't need fancy equipment or expensive software. Start with a simple notebook and pen, a notes or writing app, or a voice-to-text app like VoicePal. I use Kortex on my computer, and VoicePal on my phone.

Step 3: Embrace the Process

  • Problem: The fear of failure.

  • Solution: Don't worry about writing the "perfect" piece. Just focus on getting your thoughts down. Write about what you're curious about, what you're struggling with, or what you're passionate about. I try to come up with one small thing that is an improvement from the day before. You can improve a little every day just by taking action and writing.

You don’t need to have all the answers to start writing. The act of writing will give you the clarity you’re searching for. Start with one sentence and let the rest follow.

Writer’s Tools

You can start with a paper and pen. If you’re interested in Kortex or VoicePal you can use these affiliate links. Get 10% off VoicePal, forever, using my link.

I use Kortex and VoicePal because these tools really work for me, and I pay for the software. You don’t need to use the tools I do to build a successful creative morning habit, so use whatever works best for you.

Why This Matters: The Unexpected Gifts of Morning Creation

"So you've got the steps, the whys, and the how-tos," you might be thinking. "But what will this really do for my life? What's the big deal?" I get it.

But here's the thing: this isn't about optimizing your writing output; it's about optimizing your life. It's about reclaiming your agency, your clarity, and your connection to yourself and the world around you.

It's easy to dismiss a "morning writing habit" as just another self-help gimmick. Another thing you feel like you SHOULD be doing. But let me tell you, this simple act has started to completely change my perspective.

Here's what I'm learning as I build a habit of writing every day:

  • I feel the power to create something new: The feeling of accomplishment that comes from waking up and just doing the work. Putting something new into the world. This doesn't come from anything or anyone else. This comes from within, and it fills me with a sense of strength. I can actually create something. Even if nobody ever sees this writing, it is mine. I am doing it. This feeling makes me feel like I could write a book or anything else I want to write. It feels wonderful. It unlocks a power I didn’t realize I had.

  • Writing gives me energy: Seriously, the most unexpected result of this is the energy I feel after writing. Wake up and write. It's all I need to do. Writing unleashes this creative energy inside of you. It allows you to get your thoughts flowing which gets you mentally energized for the rest of the day.

  • I’m discovering being of service to others. By writing first thing in the morning I’m discovering my best self, and by knowing myself better I’m able to carry that into my actions so I can show up more authentically. When I’m grounded like this I’m better equipped to be of service to those around me.

If I can do this, so can you. This is about your journey.

I invite you to join me next week, when I dive even deeper into something I'm discovering, the transformative power of the alter ego persona and how that may be the key that helps you unlock your best and most consistent self.
